About this trail

Sathanur Dam & Forest Roads is a moderate-rated off-road trail near Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu over Water Crossing, Gravel terrain. As a moderate route it's a step up that rewards low-range, decent ground clearance and some prior off-road time.

The trail is at its best in post-monsoon and winter.

Watch for river crossings; run it in a convoy rather than solo; it best suits experienced drivers.

The Sathanur Dam Road is a public road; portions pass through the Pennaiyar Reserved Forest and are under Forest-Department / PWD control (a forest-clearance proposal to widen and strengthen the reserved-forest section is on record). This is a public/forest road, NOT an unrestricted off-road area — remain on authorized roads and follow Forest Department and local access restrictions; no cross-country / off-road right is documented. Confirm current access locally. (Note: the 'Thanthai Periyar' sanctuary is in Erode, NOT here.).

It's one of the off-road routes shared on 4x4 Trails India — check the difficulty, distance and terrain above before you plan a run, and always ride with people who know the route.

Can my vehicle do it? A stock 4×4 with low-range is comfortable. Carry basic recovery gear.
