Kalpa & Kinnaur is a hard-rated off-road trail near Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh over Rock, Gravel terrain. As a hard route it's a demanding route best left to experienced drivers in properly-equipped, modified vehicles.
The trail is at its best in summer and post-monsoon.
Watch for high altitude (thin air); it best suits experienced drivers.
Kalpa itself lies BELOW the Inner Line and needs no permit for Indians or foreigners. An Inner Line Permit (issued by DM/ADM/SDM offices incl. Kalpa) becomes mandatory only deeper toward the Tibet border (past Jangi/Pooh); roads to Shipki La / Kaurik are closed to tourists. NH-5 through Kinnaur is landslide/rockfall-prone.
