About this trail

Nubra Valley is a hard-rated off-road trail near Leh, Ladakh over Sand, Dunes, Rock terrain. As a hard route it's a demanding route best left to experienced drivers in properly-equipped, modified vehicles.

The trail is at its best in summer and post-monsoon.

Watch for river crossings, high altitude (thin air) and snow and ice; run it in a convoy rather than solo; it best suits experienced drivers.

Indians need no Inner Line Permit (abolished 2021) but pay a mandatory Ladakh Environmental & Development Fee via the official LAHDC portal (lahdclehpermit.in); foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit (PAP) under MHA rules. Access is over Khardung La ~5,359 m — extreme altitude (AMS risk) and glacial-fed Shyok/Nubra crossings; the pass can be snow-closed in winter..

It's one of the off-road routes shared on 4x4 Trails India — check the difficulty, distance and terrain above before you plan a run, and always ride with people who know the route.

Can my vehicle do it? A capable 4×4 with low-range, good all-terrain tyres and some skill. Recovery gear essential.
