Shimla to Kaza

Chanshal Pass (~3,749 m / 12,300 ft) is a high, remote crossing above Rohru in Shimla district that carries the road toward the isolated Dodra-Kwar valley - among the highest motorable points in the Shimla region. The drive climbs through apple country and alpine meadows to a broad, windswept saddle with long Himalayan views, on a rough, largely unbarriered mountain road. It is a demanding high-altitude self-drive - a high-clearance vehicle is strongly advised - and the pass is snowbound and closed through winter, best driven in the short summer-to-early-autumn window. **Access:** the pass road is public but very remote with little infrastructure.
